How it works...

01

Setting the goals (free 1-to-1 call)

Before mixing or mastering, it's important to know about your vision of the project. Every song is different and to understand your artistic vision is extremely important for me to deliver a great mix & master. When you book mixing or mastering, we will first schedule a free call before you need to pay anything.

02

Enhancing your sound (Mixing & Mastering)

After our call, you or your recording engineer will send the trackouts to my e-mail.

I will check your files and send you the invoice.

After you pay, I will start working on the project and send you the mixed or mastered file. You then can request as many revisions as you need until you are 100% satisfied. Teamwork is key for the best sounding result!

03

The final result (Delivery)

You will receive your mixed and/or mastered song after 2–5 days.

If you book mixing & mastering, you will get the high-resolution master for digital streaming platforms + other important formats for live performances and TV placements.

  • What makes a good mix?
One of the most important qualities of a mixing engineer is to find the right balance between a technically correct approach and maintaining the artist's (your) vision. We will get in touch before editing and discuss your musical preferences to get a feel for where you want to go and to incorporate your personal creative touch into the mix of your song.
  • How should I export my files for mixing?
Please export your vocals, instruments, and drums as single trackouts in 32-bit float at your project's native sample rate (the default setting). 24 bit is also fine if there's no clipping occurring for any of the exported individual tracks. Please export 2 versions like this—one version with all effects you used on and one with all of them disabled—this ensures that I can stay as close as possible to your already established sound while having the option to use my own effects on single dry tracks. If you have processing enabled on your master bus or other sub-busses, which is essential for the sound, please export the playlist trackouts with all bus routing enabled.
  • Should I send a demo of the song?
Yes. Please send me the demo version of the song that you got from your recording/production/songwriting session. This and our call will help me to achieve your artistic vision in the mixing stage.
  • What is editing? Is editing included?
Editing is mostly the technical enhancement of your audio done before the mixing stage. Often the producer of the song or the recording engineer take this part of the job. Editing is included with the "mixing" or the "mixing & mastering" service. The artistic vision is always Nr. 1 in the decision-making for editing, which we will discuss in our 1-on-1 call. For a clean and musical-sounding mix, fixing common problems beforehand is a must. Vocal de-noising: Removing unnecessary hiss, clicks, and pops, especially from vocals (with iZotope RX Audio Editor) Vocal de-reverb: I use iZotope RX and state-of-the-art AI tools to remove unwanted room reverb without reducing the vocal quality if necessary. This can be a huge game-changer for studio recordings with insufficient acoustic treatment. Vocal clip-volume editing: I will always manually edit the volume of the vocals before I start mixing. This includes de-emphasizing some harsh "s,t,sh" sounds and making the volume overall more consistent. I will always retain the intended original performance; of course some words need to be louder or more quiet in different parts of the song. These following creative decisions depend more on the context of the song and are only done if agreed upon: Manual vocal tuning: With tools like Melodyne, it's possible to retune the individual syllables of your vocals; this can help for a more natural sound than just using autotune. Manual timing correction: Most of the time, I will only correct the timing of background vocals, which need to be in sync with the lead vocal, or if the lead vocal is not on beat without your intent.
  • Additional mix versions
In addition to the mix for streaming platforms, the service includes the delivery of the instrumental mix and "no-lead vocal mix" for live performances and other occasions at no extra cost. Other mix versions can be included on request.
  • Payment
The full payment needs to be sent in advance. Refunds are not possible after I started working on the project. I believe in working together closely with my clients to achieve a result that will 100% satisfy them. That's why I offer unlimited revisions instead, so you can request changes until you are happy with the final result.
  • What is mastering?
Mastering is the final step in audio production to further improve the mix and achieve a well-rounded sound that translates across all devices (headphones, Hi-Fi speakers, in-ears, car systems, live concert PA's). Also, some mediums require different mastering, like vinyl. I personally offer mastering for streaming platforms by default; CD-mastering can be included on request.
  • How should I export my files for mastering?
For the regular stereo mastering, export the mix with all master bus processing enabled in 32-bit float or 24-bit (if no clipping occurs) at the session's native sample rate.
  • Do you offer stem-mastering?
Yes, I offer this service at the same cost as the normal mastering rate. Stem mastering is a hybrid between mixing and mastering, which gives the mastering engineer more control over the final sound, which can lead to better results. This is a good option. If you are not quite happy with the mix yet, we will discuss in our free one-on-one call if stem-mastering is needed or not. For stem-mastering, export all group buses (e.g., drum bus, instrument bus, vocal bus, SFX bus) in 32-bit float or 24-bit (if no clipping occurs) at the session's native sample rate.
  • Alternative master versions
Mastering for alternate mixes such as instrumentals, TV mixes, and performance mixes is included in the mastering service at no extra cost. Please provide these alternative mix versions in that case.
  • Payment
The full payment needs to be sent in advance. Refunds are not possible after I started working on the project. I believe in working together closely with my clients to achieve a result that will 100% satisfy them. That's why I offer unlimited revisions instead, so you can request changes until you are happy with the final result.
